Description: An original WW2 "RESTRICTED" LUFTWAFFE map of RUSSIA featuring around half of the infamous DEMYANSK POCKET (DJEMJANSK), in which 100,000 encircled German troops suffered considerable casualties in order to secure a route to safe passage. During the fighting, the Luftwaffe played a significant role, losing 265 aircraft and almost 400 crew members in the process. It's an officially produced composite, consisting of four smaller maps, and it bears the heading "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" (equivalent to a "RESTRICTED" British military map). All four source maps are 'AERONAUTIC' editions (FLIEGERAUSGABE), and they have been mounted on a 'coated' backing sealed with a thin overlapping edge. The coating would have offered some small degree of basic protection from the elements. The edging on the BOROWITSCHI map has partially covered an edition date of December 1940, although this does not necessarily mean it was produced then. All that can be discerned from this is that it wasn't produced before that date. A great piece of EASTERN FRONT history. Scale 1:300,000 Overall condition is very good for its age and service use, with one hole towards the right hand edge (see last photo). The map came to me with a small number of Luftwaffe maps of Europe which I am currently listing. Measures approximately 81cm x 74cm. Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines.
