Description: This is a Tom Taber Green Head Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy. It has his signature on the underneath but is not dated. It is a typical Tom Taber Decoy carved out of pine and finished by hand with a combination paints and transparent stains. The wood is a bit distressed but not terribly so. It is in near perfect condition as photos show. It is close to life size, measuring 14 inches from beak to tail, 5 inches wide, and 6.5 inches tall. It weighs 1 pound, 14 ounces. We have been admirers of Tom Taber Decoys for a long time. He takes an already beautiful bird and his artistry makes it look even more beautiful than real life, it is so gracefully carved and finished. This is a nice decoy, probably not as robustly carved as many of his decoys but still nice. His company carved numbers of decoys which were favorites at D.U. events for many years and raised thousands of dollars for wildlife conservation. He passed away in 1994 so his decoys are increasingly more difficult to find. This one is attractively priced plus we found another with it, a mallard, that appears to have been carved in much the same style.
