They once adorned domestic furniture, bathrooms and kitchen hutches especially in the old Bungalows. The tiles became fashionable across India during the Late Victorian and Regency Majolica era and were often adopted into the design decoration of wealthy Indian Havelis (Mansions). Though the owners of these old Havelis simply neglected these old tiles while demolishing their Havelis, these tiles caught interest of collectors and interior decorators because of their graceful Art Nouveau and Art Deco motifs. These tiles have a vibrancy in their respective colours, and their smooth surface. Fine hair cracks on them (which developed over the period) add character and antique value to them. Though these tiles still reflect the same grace and colours as they reflected in the early days, over the period and while procuring them from these old houses they may have developed defects in them like scratches or chipped edges. This is clearly visible in the photo published for each tile. Please examine the pictures carefully before ordering them.
