Thanks You and HAPPY BIDDING!!THE STORYIt’s a collector’s dream: an early Thor, one of the original American motorcycle brands from one of the oldest American manufacturers—the Aurora Automatic Machinery Co. of Aurora, Illinois. Thor was the brand name of motorcycles built by Aurora, which manufactured bicycle parts beginning in the 1890s and supplied George Hendee’s “Silver King” and “Indian” bicycles with their Thor wheel hubs. When Hendee teamed up with Oscar Hedstrom in 1900 to build Indian motorcycles, Hendee’s bicycle production facilities weren’t capable of casting and machining engines. The work was subcontracted to Aurora, and the landmark agreement allowed Aurora to sell Hedstrom’s engine under its house-brand Aurora, as well as sell the motor to other aspiring motorcycle builders. This agreement was the true foundation of the American motorcycle industry, as Aurora sold these engines to manufacturers like Reading Standard, Racycle and Thoroughbred, with Indian receiving royalties. Thor was a pioneer manufacturer in other ways, as it also produced the first sidecar in America, with company president Alex Levendahl keen to explore new ideas.
