Up for sale is a nice antique Nineteenth Century poetry book titled THE COMPLETE POETICAL WORKS OF ALFRED TENNYSON! This book contains his beautiful poetry. It has a frontispiece protected by parchment paper and other beautiful full-page illustrations to complement the poetry. I did not see an actual publication date but a nice gift inscription is neatly written on a blank endpaper that is dated Christmas 1883. This nice book was a luxury book in the Nineteenth Century. The covers and spine are decorated, ornate and embossed. The pages have a gold gilt on all edges. I acquired this book from a private estate. I found it safely tucked away on a library bookshelf where it had been for decades. This book was gently handled over the years. CONDITION: This antique book is complete and intact, is in very good condition for its age as evidenced by the photos. The front cover is nicely decorated and is embossed. The back cover is also decorated. The covers are in very good condition with light age-expected corner wear. The inside covers and endpapers are a dark green. The inside covers are in good condition, with some cracking and separation present at the front hinge; the front board is pulling from the binding but is attached; the back hinge is in nice condition and the board is tight to the binding. The pages are in very good condition, very nice. All pages are tight to the binding with the exception of pages 9-10 that is loose in the book. The pages have a gold gilt on all edges - this gilt is in nice condition. The spine is decorated, it is in good condition with some shelf wear, the lettering is easily read. This antique book comes from a smoke free home. This is a nice antique poetry book that will be a nice addition to your collection.
