Description: Port of New Orleans, LOUISIANA - ADVERTISING Brer Rabbit Syrup & Molasses © 1914: This White Border Era (1915-30) postcard shows an overview of the Port of New Orleans as it appeared in 1914. Brer Rabbit Syrup & Molasses uses the card as a courtesy card promoting its products currently sold by a company called B&G. B&G draws its name from Bloch & Guggenheimer, two families that sold pickles in the streets of Manhattan around the turn of the twentieth century. In 1889 they founded B&G to produce and sell pickles, relish and other condiments. B&G Foods retained the name when they formed the parent holding company over 100 years later in 1996. B&G soon purchased Maple Grove Farms of Vermont, a leader in the maple syrup category. Founded in 1915 on a family farm, Maple Grove has become the largest packer of maple syrup in the U.S. In 1997, B&G began to build its portfolio of nostalgic food products by acquiring four brands from Nabisco including Regina Wine Vinegar, Brer Rabbit Molasses, Wright’s Liquid Smoke and Vermont Maid Pancake Syrup. Brer Rabbit is a character in folktales of African American and Native American origin. He's known as a “trickster” character, but it's more like he's sly and smart instead of conniving. This postcard shows some edge wear. Ford, Bacon & Sons. Engineers. No. A-64061. Published by H. B. Brown. New Orleans, La.
