Description: Stunning, large-format 1821 antique engraved map of the British Empire, in original hand color, printed more than 200 years ago. The map is printed on a large double-page sheet and is surrounded by letterpress text with geographical, statistical, and historical details, including lists of celebrated battles and landings. The map was drawn by C. Gros, of the University of Paris, for Lavoisne's Genealogical, Historical, Chronological, and Geographical Atlas, published in Philadelphia by Matthew Carey & Son. It is dated 1821 in the lower margin. It was engraved by William Kneass, who became the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint three years after this map was published. Overall sheet size is 45 x 56 cm [17¾" x 22"], and the image area of the map itself measures 35.6 x 30 cm [14" x 11¾"]. Condition: It is in very good condition, bright and clean, with some faint toning at the center fold and no rips, tears, or writing. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.
