Colonial American c1760 Pennsylvania French & Indian War Scrimshaw Powder Horn Click images to enlarge Description Up for Consideration is a Small Beautiful Scarce Mid-18th Century Colonial American c.1760 Pennsylvania Dutch French & Indian Wars Carved Decorated Scrimshaw Powder Horn! c1750-70 Offered to you is this Amazing and beautiful mid 18th Century powder horn which we have been told by several leading experts that this French & Indian War Era and Revolutionary War used horn most likely comes from an area in the seven miles surrounding Reading, Pennsylvania in Berks County. This rare small powder horn measures approximately 10" long. Decorated with Pennsylvania German Florals , Hearts and Native America Arrows. The spout and band are nicely carved. There are several Flowers Motifs that intertwine with a vine like around the hearts and Arrows. There are Brass Stud decoration going around the base plug. The wood plug has a removable secondary filler hole held by the matching carved wooded plug. This horn would had seen battles during the French and Indian Wars through the American Revolutionary War. - Very Rare The area of manufacture for this particular example, whether Berks County, Reading Pennsylvania or elsewhere, is a mystery but everyone feels very comfortable that this Horn is Period Colonial American. CONDITION: Horn body retains a beautiful patina with some crazing from age and some areas of lighter areas due to rubbing. slight damage to a small portion on the horn by the base plug but no obvious repairs. Great Patina and details! A Fantastic pieces with Pennsylvania Dutch History and a major piece of early Colonial America military style equipment with rare “Folk Art” style of Pennsylvania decorations that make it excellent for display.!
