ITEM DESCRIPTION: Normal 0 false false false EN-US ZH-CN X-NONE We are pleased to offer another Scarce and Top Grade Pocket Watch for sale. In this listing we have a D. Gruen & Son pocket watch made in the late 1890s by the joint effort of Assmann of Dresden and Gruen. The so-called ‘Assmann-Gruen’ model movement resulted from the collaboration between Assmann Watch Manufacturer of Glashutte Germany and Gruen Watch Co. These were the first watches sold by Gruen with their namesake on it. Gruen made changes to the classic Glashutte ¾ style movement by making it into a split plate design in order to market this great product as a railroad watch which by the end of the 19th Century most American Railroad Watches had a split plate movement design. Assmann Watch Manufacturer of Glashutt Germany was at the time one of the finest watchmaker in Europe and this movement is a testament to their workmanship. All of the jewel settings where made from solid gold, as well as the escape wheel and fork. The balance and pallet fork bridges are finished with fine hand-engraving and inlaid with gold. The watch was adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism, and positions ‘AHCIP’. These were the watches that put the ‘Gruen’ name on the map which eventually became a world-famous high grade watch brand. Condition-wise the watch winds, sets and runs. However, since we have not had it serviced we do not make any guarantee on timekeeping accuracy or longevity. Antique pocket watches like this specimen require full service to run normally, it is the sole decision and responsibility of end-user in regards to service and maintanence. Cosmetically the dial has no hairline or chips and it has very pleasing gilt 5min outer numerals. There are some scratches to the seconds sub-dial. The movement has some small specks of oxidation. Open face gold-filled case houses this fine watch movement, it’s in fine condition with no wear-through. The glass crystal has scratches which is consistent with antique watch of this age. Diameter is 54.5mm. PURCHASE TERMS: PAYMENT We only accept payment made by eBay managed payment.
