Description: This antique doll was made by Simon & Halbig in Germany and is identified as a #1080, but is has a strange history. When I bought her, she came to me, repainted. Badly. I thought she must have been damaged, so I decided that I would practice my doll repair skills on this broken doll. I proceeded to removed all the surface paint. After I did that, I could not find the boo-boos. There was what appeared to be a patch on the inside of the forehead, but I could not find the corresponding crack or hairline on the outside of the head. Huh? I lit the doll's head and looked. Nothing showed up. Okay, somebody set the eyes a little funky, but okay... I could not see anything else. So-o-o, I dressed her and I am going to go with her, as is. Our girl is 21 inches tall and has been placed on an antique body. Her leather feet were falling apart, so I covered them in muslin and that is what crinkles underneath the muslin when you remove her shoes: that is the scrunchie leather. Her muslin arms are probably newer than the rest of the body, possibly dating to the 1940s or 1950s. They obviously have been done well and we're based on antique ones, so I left them, rather than replace them with bisque arms. ( Also, my hubby, has misplaced all my bisque and China replacement arms and legs and I am paralyzed without them.). Her human hair wig is a lovely shade of red and I have kept it in pin curls the entire time I was working on the doll so her curls would stay in. Her eyes are bright blue, but I do not believe they are glass eyes, they are probably plastic. I left them glued in the way I got the doll. I did add pearl earrings. The was some tiny ear flakes at the ear holes, which is often the case, but a past owner put a French wire earring in, and in trying to extract the lone earring ( I would have left it, had there been a pair of them!), I made a earring flake myself! I added the earrings, not only to cover my boo-boo, but I can't stand to send out an earring-less doll! Our 1080 lady wears a gorgeous antique lace dress from our Texas angel who sent us so many gorgeous antique and vintage goodies that we will be dressing out dolls in over the next weeks and months to come! This dress is just a vision of gossamer pale ecru lace, lined with the same color of a fabric that can be best described as stretchy, silky material, that flows almost like lingerie but actually for ball gowns. I did not think it was going to work for me until I put the slip with the crinoline attached to it. And then, I added the really STIFF crinoline, and POW! This dress came alive, as you can see! As I mentioned, beneath this lined dress, is a white, crinoline lined slip, a white double- layered crinoline, white laced-trimmed pantalettes, white patterned tights, and finally, French-styled, white, triple-strap shoes. On her head, is another gift from Texas, an antique floral-and-lace-decorated, straw bonnet with beige silk ribbons which is fastened onto her head with two pearl tipped hatpins. Please pay for your doll within 24 hours of selecting her. If you cannot, let me know BEFORE you make the purchase so I can plan accordingly. I can and do hold dolls for customers within a reasonable time frame. However, if you do not have a purchasing history with me, or it is for a protracted period of time, you will need to put your doll on LAYAWAY, which means 20% down now, so I can be assured you will be back for your doll. Sorry, but I have been burned too many times.
