Description: There are many coal oil lamps out there in all shapes and sizes and as fancy as you want. What makes this one special is its lack of any kind of decoration. This would be the bottom of the line utilitarian no frills lamp from the 1890s. I picture a poor miner getting supplies for his tent and having no money to spend. I would think this would be as cheap as you could buy back then. It has a nice heavy 4 ¼” base but is only 3 ½” high, full of bubbles, with a rounded shoulder and neck rising to the chipped lip to accommodate the lamp burner and chimney attachment. It is in dug condition and is quite hazy inside and out, with an almost frosted effect but it is a nice sun-colored purple. I have never seen one so plain, which is what makes it exceptional.
