Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In the 1930's, numerous companies produced sets of inexpensive movie star cards and photos. The Philadelphia Record, Philly's most popular newspaper, began offering quality photo supplements of actors in their Sunday papers in 1933. They would offer a different movie star every week for a few months, stop for a time (as long as a couple of years), and then start up again. Between 1933 and 1939, they offered around 40 different photo suppplements. These are 7 1/4" x 9 3/4" black and white portraits of Hollywood stars, blank-backed, printed on good quality paper that's only yellowed a little bit over the years, if at all. The photos from 1933 have the month and day listed in the caption; later issues have the full date including the year. The photos are frequently found with pinholes and corner damage - after all, they were designed to be tacked or taped up on your wall, right? This supplement features actress Jean Arthur and is dated August 2, 1936. It has no serious flaws at all, and is very presentable (see scan for condition), not too bad for an item that's over eighty years old. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
