The front of the token has an Indian head facing to the left with 8 five-pointed stars around him, (Star 4 is double punched). On the back of the token is a wreath of leaves and berries with a Big Bow at the bottom. Outside the wreath is written "CALIFORNIA GOLD", (the R, N, I, A in the word CALIFORNIA are double punched), and in the center is the date "1849". Unknown when minted. Notes:This 8-star Big Nose Indian/Fancy wreath 1/4-dollar token can also be found in a 9-star Big Nose Indian/Fancy wreath 1/2-dollar token and two different 10-star Big Nose Indians (a small and a large Indian head)/ (same reverse) one dollar size token.
