This period of American religious history lasted from roughly 1790 to 1840 and was marked by an intense revival of spiritual fervor that spread throughout the nation like wildfire. Interment preachers traveled across the county setting up camp meetings where highly emotional, deeply personal messages were preached and hymns were sang. The movement dramatically altered the face of Christianity in America by emphasizing personal piety, the duty of the Christian to do the good works of the Gospel in the world, and above all, the absolute necessity to receive Jesus Christ as one's personal Lord and Saviour. This little hymnal, dated 1832, and with its title mentioning Camp Meetings, no doubt comes straight out of the heart of this period of intense revival. It is presented here today in fair condition, with cloth over board covers showing shelf wear. The text inside appears complete, with the rear flyleaf absent.
